Mid Ulster Cup Tie

7 Aug 2016 by Lurgan Town FC

Monday 8th August sees Championship side Portadown Integrated Ladies travel to The Arena for the long awaited quarter final of the Mid Ulster Cup. Kick off is 7.15pm on the main grass pitch.

Manager Davy Welshman “This will be another huge test for the ladies as Portadown have taken their first year in the Championship by storm. They are still in with a chance of finishing second with a play off against a Premier league side still to play for. Dave Marsden is a top young manager and for me bringing Claire Taylor into his squad in the last few weeks is probably the best transfer outside the Premier league this year. Add to this NI keeper Lauren Currie and a number of other NI girls and it’s a squad packed with talent. Both sides should be at full strength and with the last game between the two sides being so close I can only see this one following the same pattern. The grass pitch at The Arena is looking in fantastic condition and both sides who like to get the ball down and play should give the supporters an entertaining game”.

With the girls now having secured the South 2 title and a place in the league cup final booked the pressure is off the girls so they can enjoy the game on Monday and go into it as underdogs to a side who play two leagues above them. It would be fantastic to see a good crowd down for the game as this drives the girls on.

The ladies also have another game at The Arena on Wednesday when they welcome Newtown Forest Ladies in the league with a 7.30pm kick off.
