Ladies Progress To Mid Ulster Final

18 Aug 2016 by Lurgan Town FC

A busy week for Lurgan Town Ladies ended with them qualifying for the final of the Mid Ulster Cup. After a bruising quarter final against Portadown on Monday and a league game on Wednesday you would have thought the girls would have found it hard to get going as they took to the field against South 1 side Ambassadors; in fact it was the opposite as Dani Creaney struck with only four minutes on the clock to settle any nerves. The home side then scored three more in the space of 7 minutes as Dani’s strike partner Kerry Taggart helped herself to a hat trick before half time.

Half time score Lurgan Town ladies 4 The Ambassadors 0

Town took to the field with the three subs coming on, Caz Laird replaced captain Tracy Orr with Kerry taking the armband, Lisa Goodman made way for Steph Potts and Dani made way for Debbie Douglas. It took 17 minutes for Town to strike again with Kerry getting her 4th, then in the next 6 minutes Debbie Douglas grabbed two and Dede Brady scored a fantastic solo effort to kill the game. With only one minute left Trudi Harbinson riffled one into the top corner from all of 25 yards to complete the scoring and bring the final score Lurgan Town Ladies 9 The Ambassadors Ladies 0.

Manager Davy Welshman “We knew this week would be a challenge and the girls were determined to take their place in The Mid Ulster Cup final. In two games against two teams playing in leagues above them they excelled with their effort and work rate. We scored some fantastic goals and as a team played some great football. With a league game sandwiched in between the cup games the week couldn’t have got any more congested but the girls lifted themselves again to remain unbeaten in the league. They can now take a well deserved rest before our next league game on Wednesday 17th when we travel to Newforge to take on PSNI. I have to pay special thanks to the club for the support they have given the girls this week and I know the girls enjoyed playing all three games on the main grass pitch which was in amazing condition”

The date and venue for the Mid Ulster Cup final has yet to be confirmed but we will announce it once it has been agreed. The next game at The Arena is Wednesday 24th when after the game v Banbridge Town the South 2 league trophy will be presented to the girls. It is sure to be a big occasion and we would ask as many as possible to attend and enjoy the celebrations with the girls in the clubhouse after the game.
